So, the other day, someone I know who is invested in remaining in her life of sin said to me, "Being tolerant is directly what Christ was about, not intolerant. " This is similar to the argument I hear over and over from people who want me to pretend that God approves of their lifestyles.
The word has been twisted almost beyond recognition. "Embrace" is not a synonym of "tolerate".
That's a pet peeve of mine: how the secular humanists in society have reworked the language to make sin virtue and virtue vice.
That aside, I would be interested to see a single place in the Bible where Jesus "tolerated" sin. Unless they mean to say that Jsus did not kill those who sinned, I cannot find anywhere where He -- in today's vernacular -- tolerated sin.
It is true that He was forgiving and sometimes -- though not always -- gentle about correcting sin, but He always admonished the sinner(s) not to sin any more.
When He saved the adulteress, He quite plainly told her it was sin and not to do it anymore.
When He spoke to the woman at the well, he was very clear that she had sinned, and again, he admonished her to stop sinning.
When He encountered the moneychangers, He was neither gentle nor subtle about the fact that they were sinning and as always, let it be known that it would not be tolerated.
Please, someone, show me where he was tolerant of sin.
